BIOGRAPHY
Born in Chicago in 1961, Andrew spent most of his youth growing up in central New Jersey where he started playing music with local bands while attending Princeton High School. One of those bands, Regressive Aid, caught the attention of Black Flag founder/guitarist Greg Ginn who then recruited Andrew to play bass with him in Gone, an instrumental punk/jazz power trio. In 1986, Gone recorded 3 albums and played over 500 gigs across the USA opening for Black Flag.
Andrew later teamed up with Black Flag vocalist Henry Rollins to form the Rollins Band as bassist and principle music writer. Andrew began to pursue adventures in music production and engineering, enlisting East Coast talent Ween and Skunk as guinea pigs. In 1989, he produced and engineered debut albums for both these bands who were subsequently snatched up by the Minneapolis indie label TwinTone. That same year, he and Rollins formed the side project duo Wartime, which he produced for Chrysalis Records.
Between 1987 and 1992, Andrew incessantly toured the world and recorded 7 albums with the Rollins Band, produced 3 albums for Ween, and participated in 3 tours and 3 albums as bassist and songwriter for the all-star supergroup Pigface. In 1992, he departed the Rollins Band to devote more time to Ween (as their live bassist) and Pigface. The ensuing decade found him recording with, among others, the Butthole Surfers and Yoko Ono (with whom he did a world tour in 1996), composing and recording award winning music for the Sundance Channel, while also continuing his production/engineering work with Ween (4 more albums), the Boredoms from Japan, the Haitian voodoo band Ram (on which he played bass as well), and an album for LA based 'P' (featuring Johnny Depp, Flea, Gibby Haynes, Steve Jones, etc.). During that same period, he also produced and recorded albums for a number of Latin American bands including 5 for the Latin Grammy nominated Babasonicos from Argentina, 2 for the Mexican band Liquits, and contributed to the Grammy winning 2003 album from Cafe Tacuba. Andrew currently lives and maintains a small studio in the wilds of New Jersey.
