Brian Brown |
BIOGRAPHY
Brian Brown's career began at the legendary Fort Apache Studios in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His position as "Facilities Manager", which found Brown mopping studio floors while watching and learning, quickly changed to "Chief House Engineer", a position that gave Brown the opportunity to work with some of today's most talented artists. It was Brown's pure enthusiasm, easy going attitude and dedication to the music that made him a standout in the Boston music scene. Soon he was engineering sessions for Juliana Hatfield (Blake Babies), Tanya Donelly (Throwing Muses, Breeders, Belly), Bill Janovitz (Buffolo Tom), Kristin Hersh (Throwing Muses, 50Foot Wave) and Natalie Merchant (10,000 Maniacs). During his time at Fort Apache, Brian had the opportunity to work with many notable producers including Paul Q. Kolderie, Sean Slade, Gary Smith, Mathew Ellard, Tim O'Heir, J Mascis, Ethan Allen and Jack Cassidy. While engineering major label albums, Brown began producing local Boston artists. Brown, a musician in his own right, found a way to balance his technical knowledge with a passion for artistry, producing some of Boston's best local music.
After spending six years working at Fort Apache, Brown set out on his own. Producing sessions at a slew of studios including Q Division, Paul Q. Kolderie's Camp Street Studio, and Gary Smith's new studio/club - The Windham. With the advanced technology of computer recording, Brian began making records everywhere and anywhere! Many of the records were recorded in practice spaces and at people's houses, sometimes even Brown's house. But as Brown states: "They didn't sound like home recordings they sounded like good records that could of been made in a multimillion dollar studio. I don't care where I make a record, as long as I'm working with good material and good musicians that respond well to direction."
Brian Brown now resides in Seattle, Washington. Shortly after he arrived in early 2005 he befriended Reed Griffin and Eric Chirnside and together they formed Attercop Sound. It is there that Brown will continue to produce the quality of music he has built his name on.
